Mexican coffee bun is a sweet bun that filled with butter and covered with crusty coffee on top. Many people might think that this bun is originally from Mexico because of its name. In fact, it was traded for the first time in 1998 at a bakery in Penang, Malaysia, under the brand name Rotiboy.
Caramel honeycomb cake is another popular cake that often found in Indonesia’ traditional markets. It is a classic cake from childhood memories for most of Indonesian people. This cake is also well-known as ants nest cake or kue sarang semut in Indonesian, because of the structure that looks like it. It has light taste but deep caramel flavour with soft and spongy texture.

Kaya puff is Malaysian pastry filled with coconut egg jam, which is called kaya or srikaya for Indonesian. It is a popular snack or dessert in Malaysia. The word kaya in Malay means rich, could possibly refer to the texture of this wildly popular jam in Southeast Asia.
It is undeniable that tiramisu is the cake of the world. This Italian dessert is well-known all around the world. The name itself, tiramiśu, in italian means pick me up, which sounds very sexy and tempting. Aside from it’s name, the soft creamy texture and coffee flavour make it hard to resist, especially for coffee lovers. Moreover, with a dusting cacao powder on it makes it a perfect combination of flavour.
Spanish flan is a delicious baked vanilla egg custard pudding topped with caramel, a very famous dessert in Spain. It is my favourite dessert, as I am also a big fan of caramel. This dessert has light and creamy texture and is very addictive.
Sugar cookies are mostly found on special occasions such as on Christmas, baby shower, and as wedding favours. They are decorated with icing, sprinkles or combination of both. It can be shaped or cut out of the spreaded dough using shaped cookie cutter, matching with the theme of the event.
Today recipe is chocolate cheese banana pastry from a city called Bandung (West Java) in Indonesia. I fell in love with this pastry when I was visiting Bandung for the first time few years ago. There are many cake shops in that city offering this pastry, which they call “bolen pisang”, as a souvenir from Bandung. Bandung is one of the most popular holiday destination, as it is only two to three hours drive or by train from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia.
Chiffon cake is a delicious soft and fluffy cake that is often used as birthday cake base. It is also perfect for afternoon tea or coffee. There are vanilla, pandan, lemon and orange chiffon cakes. In Southeast Asia, pandan chiffon is the most popular among the other flavours. Juice from pandan leaves or paste makes pandan chiffon cake green in colour and the aroma of pandan covers the smell of eggs contained in it. Since I live far from Southeast Asia now, my favourite is orange chiffon cake, for which I will share the recipe today.
