Rendang is spicy meat stew, traditional cuisine of Minangkabau people in Padang, West Sumatra. All of Indonesian ‘Padang’ restaurants (rumah makan Padang) have this dish and nowadays Padang restaurants are in almost every city of Indonesia, including my home city in West Borneo. This dish is also well-known in Indonesia’s neighbouring countries such as: Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. The popularity of beef rendang seems never ending and is spreading its popularity all over the world. In 2011 it was voted by CNN readers as the best dish in the world. Then again in July 2017 it is been chosen by CNN readers as the number one from 50 world’s best dishes.
